Mechanical Pressure Diggers

Browse Highway Manufacturing’s Industry-Leading Mechanical Pressure Diggers

Most Highway MFG pressure diggers remain in service for 15–20 years, and often longer with regular maintenance. It’s not uncommon to see well-maintained units still operating reliably after 25 years. Older equipment can often be repowered or refurbished to extend its working life even further. - 100 Years of Highway

Highway Mechanical Pressure Diggers

When the dirt’s tough and conditions are unforgiving, our mechanical diggers bring straight gear-driven torque to the fight. The HM-38 and HFMS models feature diesel powered, multi-speed transmissions, and auger capacities up to 72 inches — built to chew through jobs where hydrostatics can stall.

HM-38 Mechanical Pressure digger rear

HM-38 Mechanical Pressure Digger

Rugged mechanical drive digger with a 3″ solid kelly bar for dependable performance and maximum crowd force in a wide range of soil conditions.

HFMS Mechanical Pressure Digger

HFMS Mechanical Pressure Digger

The Highway HFMS Mechanical Pressure Digger features a 30′ digging depth and 72” auger capacity, built for high-volume utility and foundation drilling projects.

What’s different about a mechanical pressure digger?

Mechanical diggers use a gearbox and transmission (3-forward/3-reverse speeds on HM-38 and HFMS) instead of a hydrostatic motor. That means more raw torque and control in tough soils, plus rugged sealed kelly bar options for long service life. Hydraulic pressure diggers are smoother and lighter, but mechanicals deliver the brute strength for demanding conditions.
